Lost Memorial

Share

I am writing as a longtime resident of Los Angeles about the reconstruction of Pershing Square.

I was born in 1905 at 1330 Orange Street, Los Angeles. The name of that street was changed to Wilshire Boulevard when the street was extended through Westlake Park (now MacArthur Park). A few years later my family moved to 1128 Ingraham, next to the home of Kelly and Nelly Roth and their sons, Leo and Clarence. I think that after his wife’s death, Mr. Roth donated money for a permanent fountain in Central Park (now Pershing Square) in memory of his lovely wife, Nelly, a native of Texas. I am distressed that this memorial is now ignored and forgotten.
