Former Purdue quarterback Jim Everett has agreed to terms with the Rams and will sign a four-year contract today.

A noon press conference has been scheduled to announce the signing.

The Rams obtained the rights to Everett, the third pick in this year’s National Football League draft, in a trade last week with the Houston Oilers. In exchange for Everett’s rights, the Rams traded five-time All-Pro guard Kent Hill, defensive end William Fuller, the team’s No. 1 draft choices in 1987 and 1988 and a fifth-round selection in 1987.

Everett, considered the top quarterback in college football last season, threw for 3,651 yards and 23 touchdowns in his senior year with the Boilermakers.

Everett flew to Los Angeles Monday in anticipation of the signing. Tentative agreement was reached Wednesday night, and Everett celebrated over dinner with his agent, Los Angeles attorney Marvin Demoff, and Ram Vice President John Shaw.

Everett, who will practice today and wear uniform No. 11, receives a two-week roster exemption and becomes eligible to play Oct. 12 against the Atlanta Falcons.
