Los Angeles firefighters found the bodies of an elderly couple who burned to death in a blaze that engulfed their Eagle Rock home. Lawrence Barnes, 81, and his wife, Stella, 77, died in the fire that caused $100,000 in damage to their home, seven miles north of downtown Los Angeles, coroner’s spokesman Bill Gold said. Fire spokesman Greg Acevedo said five engine companies responded, and it took 38 minutes to extinguish the flames. He said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
