Texas Beats UCLA to Deny Bid by Banachowski

Texas’ women’s volleyball team scored 11 straight points in the fifth and deciding game Friday night to deny UCLA Coach Andy Banachowski his 500th career win as the Longhorns defeated the Bruins, 15-13, 15-4, 13-15, 12-15, 15-13 at Austin, Tex.

UCLA (10-3), ranked fifth in the coaches’ poll, rallied from a two-game deficit to take a 13-4 lead in the fifth game. But Texas (6-2), ranked eighth, reeled off 11 straight points to prevent Banachowski from becoming only the second coach in Division I women’s volleyball to win 500 matches.
