A 16-year-old San Diego boy was fatally stabbed after a disturbance at a large party at the Filipino American Veterans’ Hall on Saturday night.

According to a San Diego police spokesman, officers responded to a call at the hall, at 29th Street and Martin Luther King Way, about 11 p.m. They found several people fighting and began separating the participants.

As people began leaving the hall, officers saw a man run from the southeastern corner of 29th Street onto Martin Luther King Way and assault a passenger in an eastbound convertible. The victim, Alberto Gomez, was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he died.

The suspected assailant, Filiberto Ruano, 21, of San Diego, was captured after a short chase in the 500 block of 29th Street and was booked on suspicion of murder.
