Monsoon rains in India caused widespread flooding in Calcutta and surrounding areas in West Bengal, leaving at least 18 people dead and 650,000 homeless. The Press Trust of India said the rains were continuing for the third day in the city of 10 million people, disrupting transportation and utilities and rendering streets impassable. More than 2,000 temporary camps have been set up for the homeless. In southwestern Bangladesh, heavy rains have killed at least 10 people and left more than 100,000 homeless since Friday.
