Cuyamaca

The district attorney’s office filed misdemeanor charges Monday against two San Diego men accused of being responsible for a forest fire last month that charred 1,107 acres of primitive parkland in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.

Roch Nicholas Greenstone and Darren D. Kinney each were charged with two counts of allowing a campfire they started to spread out of control, a spokesman for the office said. Each count carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a fine of $1,000.

The fire began Aug. 20 in Campground No. 2 near Japacha Peak and Green Valley Falls Campground and burned east toward California 79. It took firefighters five days to douse it.
