A 28-year-old man was found hanged Monday night in a holding cell at the Chula Vista Police Department shortly after his arrest, authorities said.
Michael James Trejo, of Rios Drive in Chula Vista, was placed in a cell at 11:30 p.m. Monday. An officer found him just before midnight hanging by his neck from a shirt tied to the cell bars, said Lt. Robert Bourgeois of the Chula Vista Police Department.
Trejo was pronounced dead at 1 a.m. Tuesday. He had been arrested on suspicion of burglary, delaying an officer, and violating a temporary restraining order that commanded him to stay away from his wife and son.
