FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : L.A. Baptist’s Win Streak in Alpha League Ends at 56

Heather Hepburn and Karin Joho led Village Christian to a 15-2, 15-13, 10-15, 11-15, 15-9 upset Tuesday over L.A. Baptist, ending L.A. Baptist’s Alpha League win streak at 56.

The win at Village Christian (5-0 in league and 10-1 overall) handed L.A. Baptist its first-ever loss in Alpha League play.

Hepburn had 10 kills and 7 service aces. Joho had 18 kills, 6 service aces and 5 blocks. L.A. Baptist, ranked seventh in the Southern Section 1-A, fell to 4-1 in league and 5-2 overall.

Louisville def. Bell-Jeff, 15-5, 15-10, 15-6--Nancy Hawkins had 10 kills and 8 blocks in the San Fernando Valley League opener for both teams at Louisville.

Montclair Prep def. Western Christian, 3-15, 12-15, 15-8, 15-7, 15-10--Cindy Stein and Amy Lehrner combined for 15 kills to lead Montclair Prep (4-1 in the Alpha League, 7-1 overall).

Hart def. Alhambra, 15-8, 15-9, 13-15, 15-11--Tiffany Leigh had eight kills and Kim Leigh added 15 service points to lead Hart (4-3) in a Foothill League opener.

Notre Dame def. St. Genevieve, 5-15, 15-11, 15-10, 15-11--Laurie Jones had 18 blocks to lead Notre Dame in the San Fernando Valley League opener. Tracy Benn had 12 service points for Notre Dame (7-1).

Chaminade def. Alemany, 15-12, 15-11, 15-8--Anna Suarez had nine kills and teammate Lucy Braker had eight kills to lead Chaminade.

Agoura def. Calabasas, 15-6, 16-18, 16-14, 12-15, 15-3--Jolene Clemens had 15 kills to pace Agoura (5-1) to an upset over third-ranked Calabasas (Southern Section 3-A) in a Frontier league opener.

University def. Kennedy, 15-1, 15-7--Kennedy fell to 1-2 with the nonleague loss.

Royal def. Camarillo, 3-15, 15-2, 15-4, 14-16, 17-15--Suzi Koonter had 17 kills to lead Royal (4-1 in the Marmonte League and 5-2 overall).OTHER SCORES
