A Los Angeles landlord has been ordered to spend 60 days in jail because the downtown apartment house he owns had an inoperable fire escape when a pre-dawn blaze broke out in April, the city attorney’s office said Friday.
Bradley Thrasher, 33, who pleaded guilty to violating the city fire code, was also sentenced Thursday to a concurrent 60-day term for violating probation in connection with earlier violations of various codes at the same five-story Young Apartments at 1621 S. Grand Ave.
Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Juelann Cathey ordered Thrasher to begin serving his sentence Oct. 21.
According to firefighters, 30 to 40 residents were trapped and had to be rescued by ladder when the arson blaze erupted April 13.
