An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale was detected 27 miles southwest of Oceanside at 8:23 Thursday morning, the California Earthquake Center at Caltech reported.
It was the second small quake in the area in less than 20 hours. On Wednesday afternoon, a quake measuring 3.9 was centered a mile farther southwest. Both temblors were among the hundreds of aftershocks of a July 13 earthquake that measured 5.3.
