Two San Fernando Valley residents were killed in separate car-truck crashes within minutes of each other Thursday morning, Los Angeles police reported.
In the first crash, Timothy Flatau, 19, of Woodland Hills was killed at about 6:10 a.m. when his car smashed into the rear of a dump truck on Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Chatsworth, Officer Robert Winget said.
Flatau was driving at 50 m.p.h.--the speed limit--through the boulevard’s intersection with Santa Susana Road when he changed lanes, striking the truck, Winget said. The truck driver was not injured.
In the second collision, Leticia Gabriel, 23, of Northridge was killed at about 6:20 a.m. when her car, traveling south on Tampa Avenue in Northridge, collided with a tractor-trailer truck making a left turn onto Lassen Street, police said.
The driver of the truck was identified by police as Domingo Negron, 39, of Paramount. He was treated at Northridge Hospital Medical Center and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
