The Region : Train Hits Truck; 1 Dead

A Corona man was killed instantly when he drove his truck into the path of an oncoming passenger train in Corona. The victim was Robert S. Petitt, 26, who was the only person in the truck. No one on the train was injured and there was no damage to the train, which was not stopped by the collision. Pettit’s truck was totaled. The accident occurred along Railroad Street, between Smith and Sherman avenues, just after 2 p.m. Petitt was reportedly on his way to work when his truck was struck by an Amtrak passenger train which was moving at “a steady speed” according to police reports. Sgt. Alex Marmolejo of the Corona Police Department said the railroad crossing light was lit up and ringing.
