An 18-year-old man was fatally stabbed in an apparent fight Sunday night in the parking lot of a small market in the Buena Clinton area, police said Monday.

Juan Marcos Navarro, an undocumented alien living in Santa Ana, was stabbed at about 9:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the El Torito Market in the 12600 block of Westminster Avenue on the border of Santa Ana, Police Lt. Chuck Gibbs said.

Navarro was taken to the UCI Medical Center, where he died later, Gibbs said.

Police stopped three men in a car about a mile from the scene, Gibbs said, and arrested Estaban C. Aguilar, 24, of Santa Ana on suspicion of murder. Gibbs said Aguilar was first treated for minor head injuries in the emergency room at Medical Center of Garden Grove.

Gibbs said the two men in the car with Aguilar were questioned and later released, after being treated for minor cuts at the same hospital. A fourth man was questioned at the scene of the stabbing but was not held.

The Buena-Clinton area is “the highest crime area in the city,” where a six-man police task force has been deployed for three years, Gibbs said.

Aguilar was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail in the Orange County Jail.

Gibbs said the stabbing did not appear to be gang-related. “There’s no indication of any gang affiliation,” he said.
