College Roundup : San Diego State Sweeps UC Irvine

Angelica Jackson had nine kills to lead San Diego State to a 15-5, 15-6, 15-5 sweep of UC Irvine in Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. volleyball match Tuesday in Crawford Hall.

The Aztecs are 5-1 in conference, 24-1 overall.

Kris Roberts, a sophomore from Irvine High School, had 12 kills and freshman Sue Olszewski added 8 for the Anteaters (1-5, 7-14).

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. action:

Cal State Northridge 3, Chapman 1--The Matadors, the nation’stop-ranked Division II team, defeated the Panthers, 15-9, 10-15, 15-8, 15-8, in Orange. Sue Darcey had 25 kills to lead Northridge (3-0, 16-1). Junior Tammy Light had eight kills for Chapman (0-1, 7-11).

In nonconference volleyball action:

Biola 3, Southern California 0--The Vanguards (0-12) lost, 15-4, 15-4, 15-7, in Costa Mesa. Biola is 12-8.

Cal Baptist 3, Christ College, Irvine 0--The Eagles (5-10) lost at home, 15-8, 15-3, 15-3.

In women’s nonconference soccer action:

UC Irvine 3, Chapman 2--Kelly Grimm scored with 18:30 left to break a 2-2 tie for the Anteaters (6-2-1) at Crawford Field. The teams traded goals in the first half with Karin Grelsson scoring for Irvine. Kelly Weirich’s goal tied the score at 1-1. Holly Fong scored to put UCI ahead, 2-1, then Debbie Stuart tied it again for Chapman (3-6-1).
