Downey : Group to Select Attorney
A chairman has been chosen, the bylaws have been written and tonight the newly formed Downey Redevelopment Project Area Committee will take the final steps in its formation by selecting a legal consultant.
Five attorneys are scheduled to attend tonight’s meeting, according to committee chairman George Holiday, who said that each attorney will be interviewed by the 17-member group during a presentation.
On Sept. 23 the committee sent out letters to 11 attorneys asking if they would be interested in serving as legal adviser to the group. Holiday said he expects the committee will choose an attorney sometime next week.
“We want attorneys with experience in redevelopment work, and attorneys who have not had any prior affiliation with the city,” Holiday said.
The committee, which will advise the Community Development Commission on a 305-acre redevelopment project along Firestone Boulevard, was presented to the City Council at its Aug. 26 meeting.
