Curt Byrum, Jeff Sluman and Ernie Gonzalez, all PGA Tour non-winners, shot six-under-par 65s Thursday at Pensacola, Fla., before rain halted the first round of the $300,000 Pensacola Open golf tournament.

About half of the 156 golfers were still on the course when play was suspended. The first round will be completed today, and the second round will be played Saturday. A decision will be made later whether to play 36 holes Sunday or stick to a single 18-hole round and reduce the tournament to 54 holes.

Among those caught in mid-round was U.S. Open champion Bob Tway, who is trying to pass Australian Greg Norman and become the tour’s leading money winner for 1986. Tway, with $647,244, needs $6,052 to catch Norman.

At 66 were Rex Caldwell, Wayne Grady and Bob Murphy.

Spaniards Severiano Ballesteros and Juan Anglada and Briton Tony Charnley shot five-under-par 67s to tie for the first-round lead in the Sanyo Open at Barcelona, Spain.
