Howser to Rejoin KC; Yankees Rehire Piniella
The Kansas City Royals fired interim manager Mike Ferraro and announced that Dick Howser will return as manager next season.
Billy Gardner, former manager of the Minnesota Twins, will replace Ferraro as third base coach. The club also announced that hitting instructor Lee May has been released and Hal McRae will become a player-coach.
Howser underwent surgery for a malignant brain tumor in July, and Ferraro managed the team to a 36-38 record. The club finished the season with a 76-86 record.
