$5-Million Gift to Go to Arts Center

Pepperdine University will use a $5-million donation from an anonymous donor to help build a three-story visual arts center on the Malibu campus.

The 50,000-square-foot arts center, to include an art gallery as well as classroom, office and studio space for the undergraduate arts program, is expected to cost about $8 million. It will be part of the existing Ahmanson Fine Arts Center, which now includes the 456-seat Smothers Theatre and the Music Building.

“The gift is one of the largest in Pepperdine’s history, and the fact that it was given anonymously makes it one of the most special,” said university President David Davenport. The donation will be paid over several years.
