36th ASSEMBLY DISTRICT THE DISTRICT: Includes Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Ventura, Newbury Park and Port Hueneme; portions of Oxnard, and the Ventura County portion of Westlake Village. Republicans outnumber Democrats by 49.5% to 39%. The district, which is politically conservative, includes some of the fastest-growing areas of Ventura County. THE SURVEY: Questionnaires were mailed to legislative and congressional candidates in September. Answers will be published periodically until the Nov. 4 election. 1. THE SUPREME COURT: Do you support the retention of Rose Bird as chief justice of the state Supreme Court? McClintock: No Nekimken: No Driscoll:No. 2. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT: Do you support capital punishment? McClintock: Yes Nekimken: Yes Driscoll:Yes 3. OFFICIALS’ SALARIES: Do you support Proposition 61, which would limit the salaries of state and local officials to 80% of what the governor is paid? McClintock: No Nekimken: No Driscoll: Yes 4. ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Do you support Proposition 63, which would make English the state’s official language? McClintock: Yes Nekimken: No Driscoll: Yes 5. MANDATORY PRODUCT LABELING: Do you support Proposition 65, which among other things would require labeling of products containing chemicals that cause cancer or birth defects? McClintock: No Nekimken: Yes Driscoll: No 6. RENT CONTROL: Do you support a statewide law, sought by landlords, which would limit how strictly local governments could regulate rents?
