A 20-year-old Oceanside man was in critical condition Monday after being struck by a car Sunday night.
Mauro Silva suffered serious head injuries at 8:10 p.m. Sunday when he apparently tried to cross Douglas Drive in Oceanside and was hit by a car driven by Ronald Knurek, 24, also of Oceanside, Oceanside police spokesman Bill Krunglevich said.
Police have determined that Knurek was unable to see the man dart across the highway in the dark, and they will not ask the district attorney’s office to press charges against the driver, Krunglevich said. Silva was taken by Life Flight to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
