Ernie Gonzalez gained his first professional golf...
Ernie Gonzalez gained his first professional golf victory and became the first left-hander to win on the PGA Tour in 12 years, without lifting a club in the rain-shortened Pensacola Open. The last left-hander to win on the Tour was New Zealand’s Bob Charles at the Greater Greensboro Open in 1974.
Play never resumed after the first two rounds of the tournament were played Friday and Saturday. Thursday, Sunday and Monday were rained out.
Gonzalez, of Chula Vista, Calif., had a 36-hole score of 14-under-par 128, one stroke better than Joey Sindelar.
