Joe Montana threw a football for 15 minutes at the San Francisco 49ers’ training camp at Redwood City, Calif., four weeks after his back operation, and said he remains optimistic that he’ll play again this season.

“I have the feeling the rehabilitation is going fast and going well,” Montana said.

He said his target is for a return to action by late in the season but admitted: “I have my time schedule and the doctors have theirs.”
