A Rancho Penasquitos woman was killed when her car was hit from behind and burst into flames Monday night on Interstate 15 south of Mercy Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
Deputy Coroner George Dickason identified the woman as Patricia Morris, 41, of 15237 Andorra Way.
Morris’ apparently disabled car was traveling north, without lights, at 15 m.p.h. when it was hit by another car traveling between 50 and 55 m.p.h. Morris was pronounced dead at the scene about 8:30 p.m.
The driver of the other car, Franchot Sandoval, 40, of San Diego, was cut free from his vehicle and taken by Life Flight helicopter to Sharp Memorial Hospital where he was reported in fair condition Tuesday.
