The Region : Council OKs Anti-Cruising Ordinance

Share

An ordinance meant to clear traffic-clogging cruisers from Los Angeles streets won final and unanimous approval from the City Council. Sponsored by Councilman Richard Alatorre, the ordinance allows police to cite motorists who drive by the same point more than three times in a two-hour period. A $100 fine will be assessed for a first offense and penalties of up to $250 can be imposed for later convictions, the city attorney’s office said. The Los Angeles Police Department has pushed for the anti-cruising measure, hoping it will help stem outbreaks of violence among cruisers throughout the city.
