Santa Monica : Health Studies Workshops
A $2,500-contract has been approved by the Santa Monica College trustees for a series of workshops on how to promote student achievement in health occupation studies.
The special teacher training is being instituted in response to an investigation of possible discrimination in the college’s registered nursing program last year. The investigation found that some students felt discriminated against, and a blue-ribbon panel recommended teacher training as one remedy.
The workshops will be presented by Randall Lindsey, director of the Regional Assistance Center for Educational Equity. Also, informational meetings on careers and training in nursing will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday and Nov. 18 in Room 227 of the Technology Building on campus, 1900 Pico Blvd.
The meetings, which will continue monthly through May, will include information on both vocational and registered nursing programs, according to Sue Hazelton, director of nursing.
The programs will include requirements for enrolling in Santa Monica College’s nursing programs and a preview of employment opportunities, she said. Information is available by calling (213) 452-9363.
