A Hollywood jewelry store owner shot and killed a would-be robber, Los Angeles police said. The suspect, identified as Jeffrey T. Mannix, 26, of Chicago, walked to the back of the Fine Jewelry store at 6531 Hollywood Blvd. just after it opened and attacked the owner, Police Lt. Ed Hocking said. During the ensuing struggle, the owner was able to get a gun and fire at least two shots, one of which hit the man once in the upper chest, Hocking said. The suspect died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. The shop owner, whose name was not released, was not held or cited, but an investigation is continuing, Hocking said.
