Remington, an escaped macaw, has turned sarcastic as well as elusive, screeching taunts such as “Hello, dodo” to her frustrated would-be captors in Healdsburg. The 9-year-old female has been soaring among the 100-foot-high treetops of the Northern California town, living on walnuts, figs and grapes since escaping from her owner Oct. 10. Among those seeking her were firefighters, a tree surgeon, neighbors, city public works employees and animal control officers. “We’ve been chasing that bird all over town and we can’t even get close,” firefighter Charlie Jurecek said. “She’s getting real sarcastic,” her owner, Patricia Foss, said. “Not long after she got away . . . I was within inches of her when she yelled out, ‘Hello, dodo,’ and took off. “Then, from the next tree, she screeched, ‘I can talk. Can you fly?’ ”
