Mike Sullivan, whose errant play in the same tournament last year led to the loss of his PGA Tour card, had eight birdies Thursday en route to a 65 and a share of the first-round lead in the $500,000 Walt Disney golf tournament at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Payne Stewart, shooting for his second Disney victory in four years, had five birdies and an eagle to tie Sullivan.

Sullivan fell two strokes shy of last year’s Disney cut and ended up 127th on the money list, missing the exempt group by two spots and forcing him back to qualifying school.

Gary Koch was one shot back, while 13 players were tied at 67.

Severiano Ballesteros of Spain shot a five-under-par 67 for a two-stroke lead after the first round of the $238,000 Lancome Trophy tournament at Paris.

Curtis Strange, Britain’s Gordon Brand and South African Hugh Baiocchi each shot a 69.

Australian Greg Norman, bidding for his fifth straight tournament victory, shot a course-record 65, six under par, to take a three-stroke lead in the first round of the $80,000 New South Wales Open at Sydney, Australia.
