A basketball player at Clark College in Atlanta died during Wednesday’s practice of a rare heart disease and not a heart attack as first believed, a physician at the Fulton County medical examiner’s office said.
Dr. Gerald Gowitt, who performed the autopsy on 18-year-old Troy Norton, said Thursday that the death was “heart caused” but was not technically a heart attack.
Norton, a 6-foot 4-inch, 180-pound freshman from Uniondale, N.Y., collapsed about 50 minutes into Clark’s first practice session of the season. He died soon after at a hospital.
