Golf Roundup : Stewart Shoots a 66, Takes Three-Stroke Lead in Disney

Playing well again at the site of his last PGA Tour victory, Payne Stewart shot a 66 Friday to open up a three-stroke lead in the second round of the $500,000 Walt Disney golf tournament at Lake Buena Vista, Fla..

Stewart, winless since a first-place finish in the 1983 Disney, had seven birdies and one bogey on the Magnolia course for a total of 131.

U.S. Open champion Ray Floyd (66) and Mike Sullivan (69) were tied for second at 134. Lon Hinkle and Bobby Wadkins, who also shot a 66, were at 136.

Arnold Palmer, in a round he called “nothing outstanding,” shot a one-under-par 70 to earn a share of the first-round lead in the $200,000 Cuyahoga Seniors International on the Harbour Town Golf Links at Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Walt Zembriski and Butch Baird, both non-winners on the Senior Tour, also managed rounds of 70.

Greg Norman shot a one-under-par 70 to retain the lead after two rounds of the $80,000 New South Wales Open at Sydney, Australia.

Norman is at 135, one stroke ahead of fellow Australian Peter Senior, who shot his second straight 68.

Sam Torrance of Britain shot an eight-under-par 64 for a 135 total and a one-stroke lead halfway through the $238,000 Lancome Trophy tournament at Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, France.

Sandy Lyle of Scotland, with a 66, Curtis Strange (67) and first-round leader Seve Ballesteros of Spain (69) were tied for second at 136.
