U.S. Coast Guard planes, boats and helicopters sought possible survivors from a 33-foot cabin cruiser found partially submerged in waters 11 miles south of San Pedro. Divers were unable to find any signs of life, but people aboard the craft may have used rafts or life jackets to escape, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Tony Chilelli said. The vessel was discovered with five feet of bow protruding from the water by a Santa Catalina Island charter, Chilelli said. Marina del Rey Harbor employees saw two men leaving with the boat a day earlier. One of the boat’s two co-owners told Coast Guard officers he was not aware the boat had been taken out to sea. The other owner was out of town and could not be reached, Chilelli said.
