Orange : 3 Condominiums Hit in Late-Night Thefts

Police on Thursday warned condominium owners living at the eastern edge of the city to lock their doors and windows at night, after a series of late-night thefts by a burglar in the area.

While residents slept, the burglar entered three condominiums through open doors and windows late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, making off with about $60 in cash and a number of “concealable items,” said Officer Bob Gustafson, a Police Department spokesman.

The thefts--at condominiums in the 5700 block of East Stillwater Avenue and the 5700 block of nearby East Creekside--occurred between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Gustafson said.

None of the victims has seen the burglar, he said.

“Anyone who sees suspicious persons loitering around condominiums should contact us. We also urge all residents to lock their doors and windows,” Gustafson said.

“Our concern is mainly with the potential for violence. There is a much higher chance for confrontation between victim and suspect if the victim should awake while the suspect is on the premises.”
