Followers of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini have arrested aides and relatives of the clergyman named to succeed him as Iran’s leader, according to the country’s main opposition group, the Moujahedeen. The arrests indicate a power struggle between Khomeini’s supporters and those of his designated successor, the Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri, the exile group said in Paris. Montazeri has been increasingly critical of the fanatical Revolutionary Guards, Khomeini’s staunchest loyalists, who often impose Islamic laws by force and have beaten unveiled women on the streets of Tehran.
