Fire Department’s ‘Twilight Zone’ Memos Located

Missing memos written by county firefighters who witnessed the deaths of three actors on the “Twilight Zone” film set have been located by a battalion chief, the prosecution in the involuntary manslaughter trial of director John Landis and four associates announced in court Thursday.

Included in the set of six memos is one that was written within days of the 1982 accident by firefighter Richard Ebentheuer, who testified last week that he had predicted the accident shortly before it occurred but did not warn the film makers.

The memos, which had been declared missing by fire officials, were in the possession of Battalion Chief Gary Nelson, who wrote the official department report on the accident, in which Vic Morrow and two child actors were killed when a helicopter crashed into them during special-effects explosions.

The trial was postponed until Monday to allow attorneys time to review the material.
