Norwood, Moeller Win in Tennis

Top-seeded Mary Norwood of USC went undefeated through two rounds of the Rolex/ITCA Southern California Collegiate Women’s Tennis Championships Thursday at UC Irvine.
Norwood advanced to today’s third round by beating Sondra Mitchell of San Diego State, 6-3, 6-4, and Debbie Ceccato of UCLA, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.
San Diego State’s Anne Moeller, seeded second, also won two straight-set matches, beating Aleai Nava of Nevada Las Vegas, 6-1, 6-0 and Therese Arildsen of Arizona State, 6-4, 6-1.
Third-seeded Carol Coparanis of Arizona State was upset in the first round by Anya Kochoff of USC, 6-3, 6-3. Fifth-seeded Susan Russo of Arizona lost to Lisa Baldas of Arizona State, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, in the second round. The Aztecs’ Michelle Apra also won two matches Thursday.
