Prost Wins Australian Grand Prix and Second Driving Title
France’s Alain Prost Sunday won the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in his McLaren and took his second straight world driving title.
Brazilian Nelson Piquet finished second in his Williams on the 2.34-mile Adelaide street circuit, and Stefan Johansson of Sweden was third in his Ferrari.
Britain’s Nigel Mansel, who was trying to become the first Briton in a decade to win the driving title, retired from the race on the 64th lap when the left rear tire of his Williams exploded.
Finland’s Keke Rosberg had led the race from the 6th to the 63rd laps of the 82-lap race, but he also was forced out with a blown rear tire.
