Auto Club’s Plea for Freeways
Southern Californians were bred and raised in the automobile and their love affair with the car of their choice will never end. Therefore, every effort should be made to repair and expand the entire system before the whole freeway comes to a grinding halt, due to too many vehicles for too little space!
The politicians who are ballyhooing the glamorous rapid transits are so far in left field they aren’t even in the ballpark. No rapid transit will ever work here even if it could be finished tomorrow and whatever billions of dollars could be spent to make it first class.
Let’s use those billions of dollars to double-deck or triple-deck our freeways and not waste it on a rapid transit system that will have as much effect on unclogging our freeway mess as one rain drop does at irrigating the Mojave desert.
