First baseman Bob Horner of the Atlanta Braves and pitcher John Denny of the Cincinnati Reds were among six players to file for free agency.
Horner, the rookie of the year in the National League in 1978, and Denny, who won the Cy Young Award with Philadelphia in 1983, were joined by pitchers Jim Beattie of the Seattle Mariners and Frank Pastore of the Minnesota Twins, catcher Rick Cerone of the Milwaukee Brewers and infielder Lenn Sakata of the Oakland A’s.
There are now 13 players seeking free agency.
Meanwhile, the Reds announced that they have exercised options to keep catcher Bo Diaz for another season, and the Braves said they will bring back veteran relief pitcher Gene Garber.
