Washington State defensive lineman Tim Petek died of lung cancer. He was 23.
Petek, who played in nine games last season, underwent surgery Jan. 3, when doctors removed most of a tumor. He underwent five months of chemotherapy, dropping to 230 pounds. In July, Petek had a second operation and was referred to doctors in Indianapolis, who wanted to put him on a 12-week chemotherapy program.
Petek refused, opting to enroll at Washington State for the fall semester.
