More than 8,000 customers lost electrical power for varying period when gusting Santa Ana winds of up to 25 m.p.h. knocked down power lines in areas from Palms to South Los Angeles, officials said. “Outages of various durations ranging from seconds to more than an hour occurred throughout the morning,” a spokesman for the Department of Water and Power said. “We had some severe gusts knocking trees and branches and power lines down,” he said. Despite the windy conditions, there were no major brush fires reported in the Southland. The National Weather Service said the winds are expected to continue today, with temperatures in the low 80s.
