A suspected drunk driver hit a traffic violator’s stopped car on a freeway in Alhambra, causing minor injuries to a California Highway Patrol officer who had just written a ticket, authorities said. Officer Jeff Cazares was standing in front of a car he had stopped in the center divider, the driver of which he had just cited for violating car pool lane regulations, the CHP said. As Cazares prepared to leave the eastbound San Bernardino Freeway near New Avenue, a suspected drunk driver drifted from the traffic lanes and hit the violator’s stopped car, which in turn knocked down the officer. Cazares was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries. The suspected drunk driver was taken into custody for intoxication testing, the CHP said. His name was not released.
