1 Dead, 4 Shot at Doctor’s Office
A gunman walked into a doctor’s office today and began shooting at waiting patients and staff, killing a nurse and wounding three people before turning the gun on himself, police said.
Police Maj. V. Stuart Cook said the unidentified man, armed with a shotgun and a pistol, walked in the back door of Dr. Edward H. Haddock’s office around 11:30 a.m. and opened fire. Cook said the gunman fatally shot the nurse and wounded a patient, Haddock and the doctor’s wife before wounding himself. He declined to speculate on a motive, but there were reports that a domestic dispute was involved.
