TOPEKA — State House Speaker Michael Hayden was narrowly leading Lt. Gov. Thomas R. Docking in a race to succeed Democratic Gov. John Carlin.
With 79% of the votes counted, Hayden had 334,739, or 51%, to Docking’s 327,074, or 49%.
U.S. Senate GOP leader Bob Dole rolled to a landslide win over Democrat Guy MacDonald, and Rep. Dan Glickman defeated Republican challenger Bob Knight.
With 80% of the votes counted, Dole had 458,810 votes to MacDonald’s 195,804.
