IRVINE CO., SEGERSTROMS WIN HONORS

The Irvine Co. and C. J. Segerstrom & Sons Inc. will be among 41 companies to receive 1986 national Business in the Arts Awards today in Washington.

The awards are given annually for outstanding support for the arts by the national Business Committee for the Arts and by Forbes magazine. This evening’s ceremony will be held at the Hirshborn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

This year’s national award will be the fourth in a row for the Segerstrom development firm of Costa Mesa, a leading supporter of the Orange County Performing Arts Center. The national committee also cited the firm for its numerous public art sculptures, including Richard Lippold’s “Fire Bird” at the Center, and its support of a Laguna Art Museum facility at the South Coast Plaza mall.

The Irvine Co. won its first national award in 1985. This year, the Newport Beach development firm has been cited for its grants to such institutions as the Newport Harbor Art Museum, South Coast Repertory Theatre and Laguna Art Museum, as well as the Performing Arts Center. Thomas Nielsen, Irvine Co. vice chairman, headed one of the Center’s recent major fund drives.

The Orange County Business Committee for the Arts will be presenting its 1986 business support awards Nov. 23 in Newport Beach in ceremonies at the Newport Harbor Art Museum.
