Pomona : Initiative Sent to Registrar
The Pomona Concerned Citizens Committee has collected enough signatures to qualify a ballot initiative that would require the city to publish a yearly financial report and hire an independent accounting firm to conduct an audit.
Committee chairwoman Sarah Ross has presented the city clerk with 4,336 signatures supporting the charter amendment, more than the 4,152 needed to qualify the measure.
Upon verification of signatures by the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder, the initiative will be placed on the March 3 ballot.
The committee, a grass-roots community group with about 50 members, states on the petition that the purpose of the audit is “to reestablish fiscal integrity in the city of Pomona and make our government officials more fiscally responsible.”
The initiative asks the city to publish a yearly financial report detailing its budget, as well as all financial transactions, all institutions with which the city has maintained accounts, all contractors who received payments and a list of all property held by the city.
In addition, the amendment would require that an accounting firm with no connection to the city be hired to perform a yearly audit.
