Downey : Settlement in Youth’s Death
The Downey Unified School District Tuesday approved an agreement to settle with a Downey couple who filed a wrongful death lawsuit in 1984 after the accidental death of their 14-year-old son.
Ronald Kolar and his wife, Barbara Kolar, filed the suit after their son, Lance, fell from the roof of the Downey High School gymnasium. The suit also named the City of Downey and the Downey Dolphin Swim Club. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.
Ronald Kolar, a Downey resident for 24 years, said the “insurance company was fair.”
“It was an unfortunate accident. We’re pleased to have it behind us,” he said.
