A Garden Grove man was in fair condition with a bullet wound Wednesday after he and a woman were shot at by a man on a city sidewalk, police said.

Michael Pardon, 28, and Denise Krolick, 23, of El Toro had been walking in the 13100 block of Palm Street shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday when they saw a man running toward them, police Lt. John Woods said. The assailant drew a handgun and fired at least two rounds at Pardon, striking him once in the lower left side of the chest, Woods said.

After the gunman ran away, Pardon went to a nearby residence and asked for help, police said. He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. Krolick was uninjured.
