Culver City : Hearing on Smoking Law

The Human Services and Park Commission will hold a public hearing Nov. 18 in City Hall on a proposal to limit smoking in the workplace, in restaurants and other locations. The hearing will be at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

The proposed law, suggested by the Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights, would amend Culver City’s anti-smoking law by prohibiting smoking in most public and private buildings. It also would require employers to adopt a smoking policy to help protect non-smoking employees from secondary smoke. The commission was asked by the City Council in August to study the proposal and submit a recommendation.

Culver City’s 11-year-old anti-smoking ordinance prohibits smoking in passenger elevators, buses, food markets, libraries, museums, theaters, public meetings and waiting rooms of health care facilities.
