Thomas S. Rogers, senior staff attorney on the House telecommunications subcommittee, will join NBC as a vice president of policy planning and business development, the company said Thursday.

Rogers will start work at NBC on Jan. 1. He joined the subcommittee in 1981, and had worked for subcommittee chairman Timothy E. Wirth, a Colorado Democrat who was elected to the Senate on Tuesday.

Rogers will be based in New York, an NBC spokesman said, and won’t be involved in House and Senate liaison matters. That work is handled by Robert Hines, an NBC vice president in Washington.

Before working with Congress, Rogers was with the Wall Street law firm of Lord, Day & Lord.
